Dylan O’Brien injured on ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ set

Actor Dylan O'Brien

Actor Dylan O’Brien was injured Thursday in an accident on the Vancouver, Canada set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure, according to Fox Studios.

O’Brien, 24, was immediately transferred to a local hospital for “observation and treatment,” according to a Fox statement sent Friday. Production of the film will be shut down while he recovers.

“Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery,” the statement said.

Maze Runner author and screenwriter James Dashner tweeted on Friday: “I just want to let everyone know that yes, Dylan was hurt, but that he’s going to be okay. Not life-threatening in any way.”.

He added that production was only postponed, “but certainly not cancelled.”.

“All that matters now is that Dylan recovers. We love you, Dylan!!!” Dashner added.

TMZ reported that the injury on set involved a car stunt where “something went wrong and (O’Brien) was run over.”.

Cast member Chris Sheffield, who played Ben in The Maze Runner, took exception to the report.

“Make sure y’all don’t believe everything you hear re: @TMZ,” Sheffield tweeted.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials actress Kaya Scodelario tweeted her support as well with a picture of herself and O’Brien.

She wrote: “Thinking of you Dyl, sending love from all of us, see you soon💛.

Scodelario added a note to fans: “Thank you for your well wishes and love but please get your information from official sources like Fox and Dylan’s publicist. NOT TMZ.”.

O’Brien plays leading character Thomas in the popular YA series Maze Runner, based on Dashner’s novels depicting a dystopic future. O’Brien starred in 2014’s The Maze Runner and last year’s Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.

The Death Cure is the third and final film in the series.

O’Brien told USA TODAY from the set of The Maze Runner that he enjoyed his stunt work.

“I love taking falls, I love going into the ground, I love adding that physical aspect to a role,” he said. “I haven’t gotten to do that in a lot of things I’ve done. It’s tough but it’s great. There’s nothing else to do than throw yourself into it, literally.”.
